Separate content, structure and proofing decisions so a late correction does not undo earlier work.

Give every image a job

Select representative, consented images and charts that support the record rather than functioning as generic decoration. Classify each proposed image as identification, explanation, evidence, navigation or atmosphere. If two pictures perform the same job, choose the stronger one. This keeps the image plan connected to the objective to present an accountable narrative supported by approved evidence and financial or performance data, rather than using pictures only to fill available boxes.

Prepare the source before placement

Start with the best legally usable source available. Avoid enlarging a small web image for print. Check orientation, colour, visible artefacts and whether important content sits too close to the crop edge. Keep the original file outside the publication so replacement and recropping remain possible.

Crop within a deliberate frame

Establish chapter openers, text pages, data pages and case-study modules before flowing the final approved content. In Megal Publisher, an image frame can be resized while its picture is cropped and positioned inside it. Establish the frame in the grid first, then choose the crop. When several pictures have the same role, use consistent ratios and alignment. Review rotated or shaped images carefully because their visible boundary may differ from the rectangular frame.

Caption and describe useful imagery

A caption should add identity, time, place, explanation or credit. Informative images also need concise alt text describing their purpose; decorative images do not need a redundant description. Maintain a logical heading order, real table headers, alt text for informative graphics and sufficient contrast in charts.. Before output, inspect important images at 100 percent and check that no text has accidentally been flattened into an image.
