Move a Publisher calendar into Megal Publisher

Import supported Publisher content as editable Megal objects, then audit the calendar against its original proof.

Practical publishing guidance based on Megal Publisher’s documented page, text, image, table, review and output tools.

Practical workflow

Work through the publication in a fixed order

Separate content, structure and proofing decisions so a late correction does not undo earlier work.

Preserve the Publisher source

Keep the original .pub file unchanged and work from a copy. Record the source filename, approximate Publisher era, page count, intended size and any known special fonts. Check table grids, repeated masters, month names, page sequence, picture crops and date alignment after Publisher import.. If a reliable PDF or printed reference exists, keep it beside the migration project for visual comparison.

Import supported content as editable objects

Megal Publisher uses its own direct PUB import engine to reconstruct supported pages, text, pictures, shapes, tables, borders and layout data as editable Megal objects. It does not require Microsoft Publisher or LibreOffice behind the scenes. Import is a starting point for review, not a promise that every proprietary effect or font will reproduce identically.

Audit the publication systematically

Check page size and count first, then compare object positions, fonts, text wrapping, images, tables and decorative elements. For this calendar, pay particular attention to check table grids, repeated masters, month names, page sequence, picture crops and date alignment after publisher import.. Review calendar title and period, month or date grid, weekday labels, events and key dates and notes, legend and source information against the reference. Fix structural problems before fine visual differences so later edits do not have to be repeated.

Create the editable Megal master

Once reviewed, save an .mpub working file and retain the untouched .pub and reference proof. Test an ordinary edit: change text, replace or crop an image, move an object and reopen the saved project. Then create the required PDF or print proof. Proof every month independently, check binding or hanging margins and verify duplex backs before production.. Archive the approved output with notes about any accepted conversion differences.

A short working checklist

Publisher migration checklist

  1. Keep the original .pub file and a reliable visual reference.
  2. Confirm imported page size, orientation, count and order.
  3. Compare fonts, overflow, columns and linked text on every page.
  4. Check images, crops, transparency, shapes, borders and tables.
  5. Save and reopen an editable .mpub working file.
  6. Approve a new PDF or printed proof before distribution.
Keep the source and proof together. Megal Publisher can keep the page objects editable in an .mpub project. Preserve the source facts and the approved output as separate records so later changes can be checked.
