Typography for a flyer

Build a restrained, readable hierarchy for short headline, essential supporting details, date or offer conditions, clear response or contact route, source or organiser identity without shrinking important details to fit.

Practical publishing guidance based on Megal Publisher’s documented page, text, image, table, review and output tools.

Practical workflow

Work through the publication in a fixed order

Separate content, structure and proofing decisions so a late correction does not undo earlier work.

Create named text roles

Use one display face or weight for the headline and a highly readable body face for details; avoid turning every line into a competing headline. Define a small set of roles—such as title, section heading, body, caption, data and note—before formatting individual boxes. Each role needs a purpose, size, weight, spacing and colour. Reusing those decisions creates hierarchy and makes later changes safer than manually styling every paragraph.

Design for the final reading conditions

The reader may hold a printed flyer, view a PDF on a laptop or glance at it from a distance. Test body text and critical details at the final physical size. Use line lengths and leading that support the content rather than filling a rectangle. Avoid setting important information in very small type merely because the design started with too little space.

Control overflow and reflow

Megal Publisher provides text boxes, columns, margins, linked text frames and text-fit choices. Use those tools deliberately. A changed font can alter line length and push text into another column or page. After every font substitution, size change or frame resize, review the full story—not only the edited box—and check that short headline, essential supporting details, date or offer conditions, clear response or contact route and source or organiser identity remain complete.

Keep emphasis meaningful

Bold, colour, capitals and decorative TextArt work only when they are selective. Make the primary hierarchy reflect the goal to communicate one main message and one next action at a glance. Keep practical data such as dates, prices, addresses and contact details should be grouped by purpose and checked against the source brief. calm and legible. The accessibility test is straightforward: The main message must remain understandable without relying on image text or colour alone.. That also improves ordinary reading.

A short working checklist

Typography review

  1. Limit the publication to a controlled family of text roles.
  2. Check type at actual output size and on the intended screen or paper.
  3. Review every text box for overflow, clipping and unexpected reflow.
  4. Use sentence case and plain wording where rapid scanning matters.
  5. Confirm contrast for body text, captions and conditions.
  6. Reproof names, dates and numbers after any font change.
Keep the source and proof together. Megal Publisher can keep the page objects editable in an .mpub project. Preserve the source facts and the approved output as separate records so later changes can be checked.
