Start with meaning and order

A reader should be able to identify the purpose of the training handbook, navigate its sections and understand the required action without decoding the visual design. The intended audience is learners and trainers following a defined programme or process, and the goal is to organise explanations, activities and references into a dependable learning sequence. Use descriptive headings for course purpose and outcomes, module sequence, explanations and examples, activities or checklists and references, assessment and support contacts and keep their reading order logical in both the page layout and exported document.

Make text readable

Use clear heading levels, numbered steps and distinct treatments for cautions, examples and participant tasks. Check font size at final output size, line spacing, paragraph width and contrast.
